Hey! I’m Heather from The Life Unexpected. I started blogging as a way to keep in touch with my family and friends, but then found out it was a great way to vent and make new friends and connections. My blog is filled with the daily ramblings about the crazy things that happen to me and the hubs in life as I finish school and we take on the world together. I hope you stop by and stay a while!

I’m super excited that Shayna had me stop in today, because I’ve had a few things on my mind lately. The hubs and I just made a fast move to a new town and basically completely shook our lives up. I can’t even begin to tell you how crazy it’s been! I digress, what I’m trying to get at is it’s been a stressful time and has become entirely too easy to forget that hubs and I are on the same team in the fight we all call life. With added stress, I tend to forget to appreciate the things that he does for me, so when Shayna asked me to write something up, and with it being so close to Valentine’s Day, I figured that appreciation would be a great place to start. Here are some tips that I have to remind myself of daily when life gets crazy:
- Remember to say thanks even for the little things. I try really hard to say thank you almost TOO much. I think this really helps to let your significant other you notice all that they do for you, even if it was something small like putting clothes in the hamper.
- When you can, make sure you go the extra mile. Stuff like rinsing the dishes AND putting them in the dishwasher make a big difference in the stress level of the day, and takes a bit of the work load off for anyone else in the house.
- Set aside time for just the two of you. Even if you literally only have time for a 5 minute walk, take it. Life is never more important than a little bonding with the person you married! Remember that there’s tons of stuff to do that is free, so money should never be an excuse not to go.
With our recent move, we’re a little tight on cash so Valentine’s Day was threatening to be a non-event until I thought of a few things we could do together for little to no money!
First on our proposed agenda will be learning something new together. This may or may not happen ON V-day, but it’ll be a part of the week for sure. There are a TON of places that offer free dance lessons around Valentines, and our first date ever was square dancing, so I’m thinking we’ll go to one of the local country bars and learn from some of the pros.
After dancing, I want to make dinner at home…TOGETHER! There’s nothing more fun than creating something delicious together, and it could even lead to an innocent food fight, who doesn’t like acting like a kid? Just remember to split the clean up fairly lol
After dinner, we can digest while snuggled up for a movie, I’m feeling one of the classics like A Walk to Remember or PS I Love You…Let them groan, we all know that they’ll love it on the inside.
A full body massage is just what you need before bed, so find some yummy smelling lotion, and help each other relax! What you choose to do behind closed doors after that, is totally up to you ;)
I hope this helped you guys get in the lovey dovey Valentine’s mood; heaven knows that we all get too busy and forget about the little things sometimes. Let’s all slow down and make the best of the big mushy day! Oh and don’t forget to hit the stores Feb. 15th, candy is half off! That’s really the best time of this month (just kidding…kinda)! Thanks again Shayna, I LOVED stopping by!
